Alex Finds Gentleness

Dealing with strong emotions can sometimes be hard for little ones who are learning how to interact with others. I really liked how it shows kids to use gentleness in their responses instead of losing control. I also really like that it's a faith-based message. So many aren't these days, so it's very refreshing to find one that is.

I didn't find anything wrong with this book, yet I wasn't overly excited by it. It was a very simple story. I guess I would have liked it better had there been more to it. The message about having a gentle heart and the benefit of working together was presented as the central theme, and it was conveyed well. Other than that, there wasn't much more. For very young children, the book works, but in my opinion, it isn't one that will be read over and over by older kids.

Lovely illustrations throughout the book. A good short story for bedtime for you little ones with the fruit of the spirit.

As a parent, I immediately recognized my own child in Alex—the big emotions, the small moments that suddenly feel overwhelming, and the need for guidance rather than correction. The story gently shows how choosing kind words and calm actions can change a difficult moment, without shame or pressure. The faith-based message is woven in naturally and feels comforting rather than instructional. My child connected with Alex's experience and began talking more openly about feelings and better choices at school and at home. This book has become a meaningful part of our bedtime routine and has opened thoughtful conversations about kindness, self-control, and empathy. It is a reassuring, practical tool for supporting emotional and spiritual growth in young children.

The visual of the gentleness flower was so effective, and how clever to echo the idea of the play dough flower. I read this with my daughter; I wonder how my sons would relate to it? The Galatians 5:22-23 Scripture verse was solid, as was the prayer at the end. The concept of the gentleness corner was also good. I recommend this mostly for girls or very young boys.
