Very gentle and sweet kid's story
This book feels very real and relatable. The broken cup moment is exactly the kind of thing kids panic about, and the way the family handles it feels calm and honest. The message about love showing up through honesty and forgiveness comes across naturally. It's a simple, gentle story with a lot of heart.

Good Christian Book
I read this to my 9 year old. It probably would have been more of a fit for his younger brother. I appreciated the layout, that the text was arranged in a thoughtful way vs the same layout on every page like many books do. Also, italicizing some words and making them orange was a nice touch. The messages-as told through two stories really- were clear and Christlike and the inclusion of the Bible verse was great. What an abundance of pictures! As a mom, I kind of wonder why the mom would leave her favorite cup unsupervised with two little children who were playing happily, but it creates the context for the story.

Sweet story but could use more Christian based guidance
This is a sweet story about love, honesty, and kindness. However, it doesn't incorporate biblical teaching in a meaningful way. A verse (John 13:34) is placed in the middle of the story without any context. It's unclear why it appears there and whether it is something the children are recalling. The mother does teach the importance of love but she never connects it to God or the bible. While this is still a good book, it would have been much stronger as a Christian story if the mother had referenced God or Scripture when talking to her children.

Sweet story, just okay
The story was sweet with good content but it's definitely for a very young child. My children are 4, 6, and 8 years old and they weren't that interested.
The story mentions how love is a fruit of the spirit but the example in the story isn't very realistic. The children portrayed in the story are maybe 3-5 years old. They were playing rough and accidentally break their mom's porcelain cup (this part is very realistic). However after a Bible verse, (are the kids remembering this Bible verse?) the sister mentions, "Maybe I was wrong too. I ran too much." And when the brother mentions their mom being mad about the cup the sister says, "Maybe she'll be sad… but if we tell the truth and help, she'll forgive us." This is sweet and true, but not realistic. What young child is able to come to those mature conclusions on their own? It might have been more believable and interesting if the mother in the story was the one to teach that truth and share that bible verse herself (even if it's implied they already know that verse, it would make more sense for her to say something of, "remember the Bible verse about love?").
The sister goes on to tell her mother, "…David pulled the blanket… but I ran too fast too… We want to help you clean it up." And then the children are pictured cleaning the broken porcelain all by themselves. It's just not realistic.
Later in the story they help a boy with a broken toy at the park. Again, if the mother taught the principles of love, honesty, and bravery then maybe they'd be able to apply it at the park later that day.
The artwork is beautiful and the story is there, it just needs a little work to make it more cohesive!

Love That Shines Through Broken Moments
This story felt deeply meaningful because it captures a moment every family experiences—a small accident, a worried glance, and a choice between hiding the truth or speaking it with courage. Watching Maya and David learn that love means honesty, forgiveness, and gentleness mirrors the values we hope to build in our own homes. The soft illustrations and tender pacing make it easy to discuss real emotions, mistakes, and God's comforting grace with young children. It's a book that not only teaches but reassures, reminding families that love remains steady even when things go wrong.
